Description:
Simple harmonic motion, the superposition of periodic motions (I and II), damped harmonic motion and forced vibrations; resonance (I and II), mathematical description of wave motion, waves in physical media, solutions to the non-dispersive wave equation, Fourier's theorem, Dopler effect, dispersion and group velocity, modulation, interference of sound waves and the theory of the resonator, vibrations in strings and air columns, the human voice, ear and the the intensity of sound, reflection, refraction and diffraction of sound, practical
applications, reverberation, acoustic intensity and the acoustics of buildings, production detection and uses of ultrasonic waves, the electromagnetic theory of light and huygen's principles, interference and diffraction of light, wave mechanics.

Assessment is continuous by assignments and a final examination.
Prerequisites: 3 relevant passes at GCE A level or PSF 2602.
